| Route 1. Karlovac - Jaškovo - Karlovac |
Our ride starts in the old city of
Karlovac, which is shaped as a regular-
six-point star surrounded by medieval
ditches. The city has one of the most
beautiful renaissance ground-plans and
defencearchitecture. Later, Karlovac
developed into a baroque city withnumerous
examples of folk baroque, creating
an atmosphere you wouldcertainly
enjoy. With the bridge on the Kupa River
behind us, we pass through suburban
areasand villages surrounded by cultivated
corn fields, and reach the village
ofJaekovo. We start our approach to the
Dobra River. At the PapalinaRestaurant,
you can cross the bridge and return to
Karlovac, via the villageof Zadobarje.
We continue our ride on the narrow
asphalt road, which is notheavily used.
The road follows the Dobra
River and leads us to
Novigrad on Dobri where,
after the old stone bridge,
starts the ascent towards thefortress
of the old town, with
the renovated tower, which
also serves as abelvedere.
From the belvedere, we can
see the Dobra River curving
throughthe green surroundings.
The ride in the hilly area
through hamlets andvillages will be
especially pleasant to every nature lover.
After thevillage of VuËjak, there starts a
steeper descent towards the 13th-centu-
ryfortress of Dubovac, situated on the
hill just above the city. From one ofits
towers you can see almost the whole
city, to which you are returning.

| Route 2. Draganić - Ozalj - Draganić |
Starting from the centre of the village of
Draganić, via the village of Lazina and
across the high-road, we enter the
"realm of silence" in thelowland woods.
The route is easy and we recommend it
to less experiencedbicyclists. The ride on
the macadam road surrounded by twittering
birds andsometimes accompanied
by does, brings us back to nature in the
best possibleway. You will cross the
channels connecting rivers and the
DraganiE fish-pond, where you will be
surprised by storks and wild ducks. The
secondpart of the route shows you the
life style of the people living along the
Kupa River. After G. Pokupje, the road
almost touches the river, andsometimes
it is separated from it by cultivated fields
and hamlets, whereyou can meet local
people. Having crossed the Kupa River
in Ozalj, youreturn to DraganiE along
the opposite river bank. The view of the
river willsometimes be obstructed by the
unique golf-courses in the Valley of
Cardinals, but a bit later you will be able
to see the road traversed.
