The caves of Barać (Baraćeve špilje)
|
The caves of Barać are placed about six kilometres to the East of Rakovice (main road Zagreb-Split), a bit more that half a kilometre to the West of the village of Nova Kršlja centre. Entrances into all three caves are on the North side of the Baraćeva Brina. At the bottom of Brina between the entrances into the caves there is the spring of Baraćevac, which makes the creek of Kršlja together with two smaller no-name springs. The creek of Kršlja joins the creek of Suvaja some twenty meters further away. The creek of Kršlja flows through the field for a few kilometres and on its Eastern part, by a series of sinking creeks, gets inside the cave of Varićak where it makes for the majority of water in its canals.
The sightseeing of the Upper cave of Barać (Gornja Baraćeva špilja) is organised to be accompanied by tourist guides (Croatian, English, German), who talk from 45- 60 minutes about the general geological make of the cave, its making, specific details, findings with drawing attention to the kinds of ornaments and the details. The visitors get protective gear at the entrance- a helmet and an eco - torch.
THE CAVES ARE OPEN FOR VISIT DURING SUMMER SEASON.
ANY VISIT OUT OF SEASON IS ORGANISED INDIVIDUALLY, I.E. ACCORDING TO THE ARRANGEMENT.
