Jelov Klanac

 The story about the village of Jelov Klanac goes far back in history. It is somewhat sad because Jelov Klanac has had the destiny of many villages and the migration of inhabitants into the neighbouring bigger villages, but as all good stories it has a punch- line and a happy ending.
The village of Jelov Klanac used to be inhabited and alive a long time ago but because of its turbulent past and a trend of migration into towns there were gradually only the traces of homes left in the village. Today, many years later, on the base of an old family house covered in vegetation, under the protection of a 400 year-old lime tree a beautiful Jela grew up, all in wood, unique and original Jela is a house in the woods which thinks in green and in brown and in red, just like its rooms are painted.
Built with love and a wish to become the moving force and a motif to the people from that and some other villages to come back and revive their homes, Jela has planted the seed of tourism and sustainable growth in Jelov Klanac.
In 200 square meters of simple but luxurious village villa some new people started to gather, too. They have come there to enjoy the silence which, as they say, is best heard over there and to let themselves go to the art of pastime. To collect herbs that heals, to take pictures of rare plants like holly, to pick wild strawberries and edible bolete and to be a part of one story about sustainable growth. They have come to try the specialties of the Lika cuisine, to check the pulse of the Plitvice lakes placed in unspoiled but tamed nature, to go horseback riding, to walk, paint, and go mountaineering and to breathe deeply.
During winter where everything is covered in snowy white, the logs from the fireplace crack in the house and the apartments have a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. In the summer Klanac is surrounded by crickets in the air and make the starlit sky even more festive and when life becomes silent the nature awakens with the scents of immortelle, flax and camomile which get inside the apartments too.
 There are fresh water springs in neighbouring woods on which rabbits and roe deers drink frequently and early risers can see them there. Kici- the cat and Mickey and Donna -the dogs can be seen at the estate, eating from the same plate. Horses can be fed, watered or ridden; long walks through the woods can be taken on the paths that lead through the estate. From one valley to another, from one hill to another, from one lookout to another all to the bench in deep shade made by a pine wood, where resin smells and the earth is covered in a carpet made up of pine needles.
An isolated forest wooden house, 12 km from the first waterfall of Plitvice, in a canyon between 2 mountains is without negative influence of the civilisation and light pollution. Some rare kinds of beech, i.e. golden beech ("zlatna bukva") can be seen in Jelov Klanac, and it is planned to be planted all 32 kinds of beech soon.
After Jela, as we have heard, there will be another wooden house built on the old, overgrown base of the house, and we hope for more and more. The story about Jelov Klanac is a story about autochthony and the return of life into one village, but also about the drinking water, silence, the fir-tree, the pine-tree, the beech tree and forest animals, a symbiosis of man and nature.
